We all eat to stay healthy and fit. Nutrition content of the food and how to utilize it are our main concern. Nutrition as we all know is contained in the food item in six forms, proteins, vitamins, carbohydrates, fats, minerals and water. All the constituent of the food are necessary for the proper growth of the body.

Proteins are the body building food, vitamins are necessary to protect you from various diseases; minerals are present in small quantities in our body but are necessary for bones, teeth, nails etc. Fat and carbohydrates belong to the group which provides energy to the body. But generally people, especially the teen don’t pay much heed to this and indulge themselves in unhealthy eating habits. It is here that they need the Nutrition Education to understand the healthy eating habits.

Teenagers of today need to be made aware of the fact that eating right in this age is not only good for their looks or health for now only but this is also going to reflect in long –long years to come. They should make it a habit of eating healthy. Various Nutrition Programs are there to guide the teens of the food and Nutritional Management.

Here are a few tips that you can try out while following your Nutrition Program. The first thing that a teen should take care while following a Nutrition Program is to include lots of fruits and vegetables in their diet. Since red, orange and green fruits and vegetables contain lots of vitamins and minerals; try to include a large portion of such fruits and vegetables.

A teen should try to switch more to whole grains instead of refined and more processed grains. This may be whole wheat, brown rice, oat meal etc. Most important thing that a teen should take care while following nutritional management program is to cut on fats. They should cut on solid fats like cookies, cakes, sweets, pizza, ice creams etc.

A teen who is not so much physically active, should drink milk with no fat or very low fat content. This will provide him with the same amount of calcium but cut off the fat. But the teens who are more into physical activities like sports and athletics should drink full fat milk to gain the extra energy from the fat. When going out for eating, order more of grilled or baked food instead of fried ones.

A teen should include more of body building food or the proteins. These may be beans, peas, eggs, poultry, meat, seafood, nuts or seeds. Another thing that has been observed with the teen is that they tend to drink more of soda, energy drinks, sports drinks or cold drinks. But all these have high content of sugar and carbon dioxide and are very harmful for the body.

So they should drink more of water or fresh fruit juices. But just eating right is not all for a teen. He or she should be physically active also. Taking part in sports is a very good idea. So, all the teen out there, follow this Nutrition Education tips and stay fit. - by Azhar Shah
